Blood and organ donation
Of all the people in the UK waiting for an organ transplant, three quarters need a kidney transplant (factsheet)
Across the UK, more than 1,000 people each year donate a kidney or part of their liver while they are still alive to a relative, friend or someone they do not know. The most commonly donated organ by a living person is a kidney.
These people have all had their lives transformed by organ donation (factsheet)
Organ donation is when you decide to give an organ to save or transform the life of someone else. You can donate some organs while you are alive, and this is called living organ donation. However, most organ and tissue donations come from people who have died. Add your name to the NHS Organ Donor Register and transform more lives.
